FREE GIS/GPS Integrated Computer Applications Certificate Program
The GIS/GPS Integrated Computer Applications Certificate Program is a newly developed 75-hour training program that incorporates geographic information systems and global positioning systems with a project management component that utilizes Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint). This training program is offered at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City and supported by North Jersey Partners.
GIS/GPS is being recognized as a technology that businesses of the future will be required to use in its normal day-to-day operations. In the Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution (TLD) sector GIS/GPS is a necessity now in order to track goods being shipped into central distribution centers as well as products shipped out to point of sale locations.
This bodes well for the North Jersey region because it is the entry-point and staging area for 65% of the population of North America to receive goods and services. The TLD sector businesses in and around the ports of Newark, Elizabeth, Bayonne, and Newark airport as well as warehousing/trucking terminals in Secaucus, Kearny, and North Bergen have a constant need to hire employees and retrain their existing employees in the latest technologies.
Participants in this training program will receive 44 hours of training in GIS/GPS, 15 hours in Project Management concepts, and 16 hours integrating Excel and Access. Participants will create a workplace related project management GIS/GPS plan and apply it to the TLD sector utilizing the two MS modules.
In addition, those who successfully complete this training course will receive five credits toward an Associate's Degree in Computer Science. No pre-registration placement or testing is required. Classes will be held at the HCCC Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center in Jersey City.
